What the 20 Charged in West Texas Drug Trafficking Ring are Up against

In June, law enforcement agencies throughout Terry County and Lubbock County raided over a dozen locations to bust a major drug trafficking ring in West Texas. The raids were an effort headed by federal and state police to catch over a dozen individuals who had been involved in a conspiracy since January to move drugs. During the raid, police seized a pound of cocaine and five pounds of marijuana. Firearms and vehicles were also taken.

Some of the individuals involved in the ring were already being held in jail for state charges. Collectively, 20 people were charged with the following federal crimes:

As a constable. Constables in Texas are licensed peace officers who perform functions such as issuing subpoenas, traffic citations, and other civil papers.

Dallas Pilot Accused of Smuggling $200,000

According to federal prosecutors, a man attempted to smuggle almost $200,000 into the United States at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Anthony Warner, a pilot from Dallas, arrived in Newark as passenger on a flight from India on January 10th. Airport security discovered $196,000 in undeclared cash wrapped in newspaper along with four pairs of earrings, ten rings, and other jewelry. He was arrested and charged with making false statements and bulk cash smuggling shortly after his arrival.

Warner has been assigned a federal public defender and has been released on $100,000 bail.
